Ayurveda is a treasure to all mankind, it offers us a path to health that is available for all who truly seek it. India's ancient sages such as Charaka described a complete science of life and health. True health was an expression of happiness, unbounded energy, vitality and joy, this is the gift of Ayurveda and those who heed it can live life to it's fullest expression. At Vedic Society we treasure this knowledge, it's great ancient teachers and the many wonderful people working with it today to cary this flame of health and longevity. We have a number of projects working with Ayurveda to help bring it's healing and wisdom to all upon the planet. Our Ayurvedic projects:
Madanapalas
Madanapalas was born out of a prayer and vision to make the finest of Ayurveda available to anyone, anywhere on the planet, not just those in localities with an Ayurvedic centre. King Madana was an ancient King who wrote a guidebook for all beings on living a healthy, happy life based on the principals of Ayurveda. Inspired by his wish to see all people live in perfect health, we created an online store where we have sourced the finest of Ayurveda and made it available affordably to all people. All manners of disease can be treated and we have an expert Ayurvedic doctor available for online consultations to guide the best remedies for each particular case. Now anyone, anywhere can receive Ayurvedic healing. Visit Madanapalas online: http://www.madanapalas.com Please note all profits from Madanapalas go towards Vedic Society projects worldwide.
Home Remedies
Home remedies have been used for thousands of years to prevent and treat disease. Only in recent history has this profound knowledge waned amongst modern society. Ayurvedic home remedies can be used to treat most conditions from minor to acute. Vedic Society has researched Ayurvedic home remedies for a number of years with many well known doctors who have in turn seen these working on thousands of patients. We are presently developing a web site called homeremedies.org which will be a global platform for home remedies. It will offer an instant, interactive guide for anyone out there in need of a home remedy and will also allow for feedback and suggestions from the public. The site will be ready and go live in 2007.
Monthly Ayurvedic Clinic in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa We are most honoured to have been associated with two fine, BAMS qualified, Ayurvedic doctors from India; consisting of Dr. Ram Garg and Dr. Vijay, having hosted them at our Simon's Town centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Both are experienced and expert Ayurvedic doctors having seen many thousands of patients worldwide. They continue to have a monthly Ayurvedic clinic which travels around South Africa, between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
Between the two of them they have decades of clinical experience and this is the first time that BAMS qualified Ayurvedic doctors have been regularly available in South Africa. They offer full consultation services, Ayurvedic herbal medicines and special Ayurvedic therapies such as abhyanga (oil massage), svedana (herbalised steam therapy), nasya (oil application to the nose), panchakarma and many other techniques both physical and mental that were used to treat the patients who came. Their results are very good and highly recommended with many patients returning for ongoing treatment and bringing family and friends too.
Ayurveda is a living knowledge where our awareness is the key to guiding ourselves to good health. Each disease is actually an imbalance of a different nature, when we understand the forces at dance in this universe; we can understand our imbalance and understand thus the path to balance. After an initial consultation which is around 60 minutes, a treatment program is selected along with diet guidelines and herbal remedies. All ailments can be managed from mild to chronic. Ayurvedic Scholarship
In 2005 we lauched our Ayurvedic scholarship in partnership with TOIT, an educational scholarship charity based in Nepal. The scholarship is a fund that supports students to study Ayurveda in Nepal (the project will expand to Sri Lanka and India in the near future) and covers their full expenses for the duration of study (4 1/2 years). Students are selected who would otherwise not have the opportunity to study Ayurveda. We also support that the education is of the highest quality and support extra studies of Yoga, Meditation, Pranayama and Naturopathy to supplement the Ayurvedic studies and produce doctors of finest quality.
(Barsha Hada our first scholarship recipient for BAMS degree) As this program expands we are hoping to provide more scholarships for Ayurvedic studies and Vaastu. For further information please contact [ scholarship ] Ayurveda for Animals

Ayurveda has long had specialists in natural animal medicine, even in Sanskrit there are special titles for doctors of Cows, Elephants, Horses and other animals indicating a specific branch of Ayurvedic speciality. The same medicines that remove disease through balance and purification in humans work in animals under the same universal principals of nature. At Vedic Society it is our wish to make Ayurveda available for animals worldwide through our online Ayurvedic project Madanapalas (named of an ancient benevolent king of ancient India). We have an entire section devoted to Ayurvedic medicines for animals at Madanapalas. We are also in the process of establishing an animal rescue project in Nepal and it will be under the expert guidence of an Ayurvedic Vet who will be using Ayurvedic preparations to treat the injured and infirm animals.
Ayurvedic Research
We are constantly conducting research into Ayurveda. A synopsis of the work can be read about here and in our articles pages you can find various articles on ther subject. Ayurveda is a vast subject with so many areas still not commonly known. Did you know that Ayuveda has an entire branch for managing poisonous snake bites with no side-effects or damage to the patient? There are just a few traditional practitioners still practicing this and we wish to help to preserve such knowledge. If you feel inspired by our work, have a skill to volunteer or would like to support us in any way please feel free.
